Band and Choir:

Eligibility: This opportunity is open to any Saskatchewan student enrolled in Grade 9 -12 at the start of the school year. Applicants are expected to perform at a high school level in all aspects of music. Placement in an Honour Group is at the discretion of the auditioning adjudicators. All auditions are anonymous. There is zero tolerance for auditions which contain "identity indicating" speech of any kind.

Cost of Participation: Each student will pay a $10 audition fee per group/instrument to which they apply.

This fee is non-refundable and must be included with form. Forms for "E-mailed" Auditions must be received before the deadline. Students selected for participation will be required to pay a $150 registration fee. This fee includes participation in the Honour Groups Program, a T-shirt, professional picture, and professional CD of the concert. Billets may be available for 2010, please contact Lenora Bells, HG Chair for further info.

Rehearsal and Performance Dates: The Honour Groups 2010 will take place from November 4, 5 and 6, 2010. The recorded performance will take place in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Music Conference 2010, Students failing to attend any rehearsal may be required to withdraw from their respective group.

Audition tapes/CD, MP3's - Applicants are responsible for recording and sending in a good quality recording of the audition materials required. Submissions can be made on cassette tape or compact disc, but we are encouraging the use of MP3 format. We are phasing in email auditions in 2010, so please note the following rules regarding email submissions:

1. Send one file (MP3) for the audition not an MP3 for each audition element.
Include student name and instrument in the email header and also in the body of the email. Also label the MP3 file itself with your name and instrument. A student's audition MP3 should be about 2MB.

A separate tape/CD/Mp3 and form and fee is required for each audition submitted.

The use of high quality recording equipment is encouraged for the most accurate reproduction of your audition performance. Use a "medium" compression setting for your MP3 compressor. Or use SmartMusic.

DO NOT record your name or the name of your school on the audition recording, but DO label your submission clearly (if you are sending by mail). CD's and cassettes will be converted for you in 2010 if your cannot provide MP3s for any reason.

Each audition recording must be accompanied by the appropriate form. MP3's submitted without being properly identified with student name, instrument/voice, and not having a corresponding signed form/cheque will be discarded.

Any submissions to SMEA become the property of SMEA and will not be returned. .

Application Deadline: is April 15th, 2010 . Items not postmarked on or before that day will not be accepted. All applicants will be notified regarding the outcome of their audition by June 1, 2010.

Mail (if you wish) your Choir or Band audition recording to the SMEA Registrar, 815 7th Street East, Saskatoon SK S7H 0Y3 , or email to SMEAHonour@sasktel.net
