| Band Audition Criteria
(Contact , SMEAHG Chair) Record your tape in this specific order ONLY and follow the specific tempos. Your audition will be judged on how closely you can follow directions! Record in one session and send a single MP3 (do not attempt to send full size audio files by email, only email MP3's) containing these elements.... 1. Chromatic scale at mm=96 (in eigth notes) ascending and descending, articulation: slurred . . . . . . . .To demonstrate range - begin on your lowest note and play up to the highest note of your range. 2. Concert F Major scale (2 octaves) in eighth notes at mm96 - two slurred, two tongued. 3. TWO Contrasting pieces or a study showing contrasting styles. Your chosen selection should demonstrate your ability to play with lyricism, playing slowly with a beautiful tone and expressiveness; the other piece/section should showcase your technical ability, playing quickly with control. You do not have to play an entire piece; usually 32 measures of either selection is enough. Select sections that show off your best playing! (If this material is not available to you through your school band program or private lessons, or through SmartMusic, some etudes with contrasting sections are available here:
Percussion: 1. Bells - Concert E-flat Major scale - 2 octaves at mm96 2. Snare Drum -buzz roll from "PP" to "FF" and diminuendo to "PP" 3. 2 pieces/excerpts demonstrating your ability to play 2 instruments (Timpani, snare drum or bells). If this material is not available to you through your school band program or private lessons use the etudes above. |
Please ensure that you have recorded all necessary materials by listening to your own recording. These are anonymous auditions when presented to the selection committee, so DO NOT say your name or identify the performer in any way in the recording .
